About
Laura
Originally from Knoxville, TN, Laura has lived in Nashville for ten years. She holds a B.A. in Ministry from Belmont University and is currently earning an M.A./Ph.D. at Vanderbilt in Religion, Psychology, and Culture (RPC). Through the RPC program she has received two years of clinical training in offering counseling to clients from both a theological and psychological perspective. Laura is also a professional pianist who teaches music, performs concerts, and serves as the Worship Accompanist for McKendree Village Retirement Community. She lives in a 100-year-old house with her cat, Doc.
Please note that Laura is neither a medical doctor nor a licensed counselor. She may refer you to such professionals if she believes their area(s) of expertise could better meet your needs.
Confidentiality
Occasionally, Laura may seek supervision and feedback either from a licensed pastoral counselor or from a small peer group of Vanderbilt RPC PhD students. Other than these individuals, who are obligated to keep all discussions strictly confidential, Laura will only disclose information you share with her if she believes you are endangering yourself or others, or in the event of a court subpoena.
Cost
The cost for each 45-to-50 minute session is $90. However, for clients whose income is less than $40k per year, Laura offers a sliding fee scale (please email her for details). Except for unusual circumstances, payment by cash or check is due at the time of service.
Parking / Entering
Feel free to arrive a few minutes early. Please park in the back or on the street (not in the driveway). Come in the front door nearest the porch swing, wait in the parlor, and Laura will come and greet you at your appointment time.
About
Counseling
The rate and nature of progress differs from person to person. Some clients begin to see results immediately, while others find that it takes several weeks or even months to start seeing improvement. Many people find that their situation seems to worsen temporarily before it changes for the better, so it is important to be patient: healing does not occur overnight. Thus, Laura asks that each client agree to have two more sessions if/when they decide to end counseling, to allow for proper closure of the relationship.
I have read, understand, and agree to Laura K. RosserÕs counseling policies as described above. I also understand that I may ask questions or discuss these matters at any time.
