As someone who is fascinated with personality studies, Laura has found the Enneagram to be an exceptional system for understanding our own and others' temperament in a variety of dimensions.   More information about the Enneagram's nine types, as developed by Don Riso and Russ Hudson, can be found at
www.enneagraminstitute.com.
Laura offers Enneagram presentations for church groups, book clubs, or other gatherings, as well as private teaching sessions for individuals or couples.   The cost for a 90- to 120-minute interactive group presentation is $10 per participant ($5 for students) with a minimum of $150 total.   Individual and couples' sessions are $150, with a sliding fee scale available.
(pastoral psychotherapy = a type of counseling that integrates both psychology and theology)
With the wide variety of people and places Laura has encountered over her musical career, she has found that the moments she most enjoys are when she has the opportunity to connect with others on a soul level and offer listening and accompaniment. Learning to be a professional psychotherapist through clinical work in Vanderbilt's Religion, Psychology and Culture (RPC) program has been an unexpected, but surprisingly natural, part of her journey.
As a concert artist herself, Laura has a special passion for and understanding of the unique life rhythms, relationships, and spiritual issues that musicians, writers, and other artists often encounter.
But she also enjoys working with any individuals who seek healing, wish to deepen their spiritual journey, want to examine their life from a theological perspective, or are ready to move through psychological concerns that are limiting their ability to love, work, play, and grow.   This process may unfold over several weeks, months, or years.   All that is shared is held in sacred confidentiality.
Pastoral psychotherapy sessions take place at Laura's home office in southeast Nashville.   Usually the format is conversational ("talk therapy"), but it could also include:
-creative prescriptions (music, poetry, art, movies, etc.)
-dreamwork
-Enneagram study
-essential oils
-examining toxic beliefs
-listening to the body
-lifestyle design
-making a family genogram
-prayer
-reading recommendations
-spiritual homework
Please note that Laura is not a licensed counselor.
She is currently a doctoral student in Religion, Psychology and Culture, as well as an active musician.   Her major influences include psychodynamic psychotherapy, pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, the Enneagram, Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, family systems theory, C. G. Jung, narrative therapy, Reiki and other energy work, and the Alexander Technique.   More information about her theoretical understanding is available here.
Sessions last 45 to 50 minutes and cost $90.   Laura also offers a sliding fee scale for clients whose income is less than $40k per year.   For more information, please see Laura's counseling contract.
